Jail Phone Automated Attendant (00:15:24.13)
Your call has been accepted.
Kendrick (00:15:27.15)
Hello?
Shay (00:15:28.27)
Hello.
Kendrick (00:15:29.07)
Hey, uh, I’m supposed to have court today. And now Bullitt County’s trying to lie.
Shay (00:15:36.18)
Well, they called your name and I said something to one of the officers. I said “He’s in custody,” because they were about to give you another failure to appear, and I said “that’s why he has failures to appear.” So somebody said they were going to go tell the judge, so
Kendrick (00:15:49.19)
No, they’re not gonna go tell them. You gotta go tell the judge yourself.
Shay (00:15:53.01)
How do I do that?
Kendrick (00:15:54.03)
They’re not going to tell him. Just go to the courtroom and tell the judge.
Shay (00:15:56.22)
They’re in court already. They’re in session. Can I interrupt it?
Kendrick (00:15:59.24)
Yes, you can go to court. You can go to court. You stand up and the judge is gonna ask that you speak. You say, uh, Kendrick Wilson is in custody and this courtroom is purposely failing to …. [Scratchy]
Shay (00:16:11.25)
Alright.
Kendrick (00:16:12.03)
You gotta tell the judge. The clerk’s office and everything. They’re all in on it. We been calling all morning. They try to say, “oh, we didn’t know he was in custody.” Bullitt County DPA’s office. They just lie. Everything is a lie. You gotta let Judge Kelley know.
Shay (00:16:40.04)
Did you let Judge Kelley know? All right, I’m talking with Officer Dunn right now. He said he let the judge know.
Kendrick (00:16:46.29)
So, get his badge number. Uh,
Attorney (00:16:55.12)
REDACTED
Shay (00:16:56.04)
703 Dunn. And then there’s also Mattingly that I told— he’s sitting outside.
Attorney (00:17:01.13)
REDACTED
Shay (00:17:03.20)
They’re not letting him in court. They’re not letting him come to court.
Kendrick (00:17:33.04)
Get Mattingly’s badge number, too.
Shay (00:17:33.13)
Ok.
Shay (00:17:33.19)
Well, they keep … fighting charges … Are they coming to get him?
Officer Dunn (00:17:33.20)
Not that I’m aware of.
Kendrick (00:17:33.20)
Tell them you want to go into the court and talk to the judge.
Shay (00:17:33.20)
Can I speak to the Judge? Yo gonna arrest me? I mean, I got a few minutes, Kendrick, so, um, after we hang up, I’ll make— I’ll stick around until I get a chance to talk to the judge.
Kendrick (00:17:48.29)
You don’t have permission. Listen, you don’t have to ask permission to go to the judge. You just go to the courtroom, right?
Shay (00:17:54.24)
Yeah. I’m here.
Shay (00:17:59.02)
Yeah, do I need to go in?
Officer on other case (00:18:02.02)
Yes. Jennifer Johnson, nice to meet you.
Officer on other case (00:18:05.16)
I do tons of this commercial vehicle stuff and I’ve heard—
Attorney (00:18:09.14)
well, it was easily, uh, Trooper Cook.
Officer on other case (00:18:13.02)
Yes, Officer Cook. Yeah, he’ll be— he retired and then he’ll be coming back as an officer of ours.
Shay (00:18:18.23)
All right, all right. Mr. Dunn is sitting here, uh, listening. Did you hear that? You heard all that. He’s talking on his— am I in your way?
Attorney (00:18:27.05)
Yes, please.
Attorney (00:18:27.24)
Thank you.
Kendrick (00:18:28.27)
Did you get, uh, Mattingly’s, uh, Sheriff Mattingly’s, uh—
Shay (00:18:34.07)
I will before I leave. I will before I leave.
Kendrick (00:18:36.13)
Get Mattingly’s badge number?
Shay (00:18:37.03)
Do you know Mattingly’s badge number?
Kendrick (00:18:42.10)
I’m going to subpoena, um, these officers as far as, you know, they said that they told the judge. You said he said he told the judge, correct?
Shay (00:18:56.05)
Yes.
Officer Dunn (00:18:56.06)
Yeah, I’m not sure about why they didn’t transport him.
Shay (00:18:59.09)
This is like his 7th time they’ve done this to him. That’s why I’ve been showing up.
Officer Cothern (00:19:07.26)
I don’t have any idea. We didn’t get an order to transport.
Shay (00:19:09.25)
Can you go get him? He’s in LMDC right now.
Officer Cothern (00:19:13.13)
No, we’re not going to get him now. We’d have to have an order to get him out of there.
Shay (00:19:15.14)
Well, this is the 7th time they’ve done this to him. He keeps missing….
Kendrick (00:19:19.02)
The judge will give an order. That’s the whole point. If you give the judge the correct information, he will put an order in for them to go pick me up.
Officer Cothern (00:19:25.25)
We don’t give the judge information. The judge has information. He gives us orders to transport people when he wants them. Doesn’t have anything to do with us.
Shay (00:19:33.23)
He may not have the full story. They’re not telling him the truth.
Kendrick (00:19:37.16)
They have a trial scheduled for today, so if a trial is It says trial court. If it’s scheduled for today and they didn’t come get me at 9, then they just shifted back to 12 o’clock. And so he would put the order in, I’m only 20 minutes away, to come get me. That’s how I know they’re not properly communicating this information to the judge, because he would say go get him. They’re wasting the taxpayer dollars. This is what they’ve been doing out there the whole time.
Officer Cothern (00:20:03.09)
Talk to your lawyer. Talk to your lawyer.
Shay (00:20:07.16)
That’s a long story right there. Um, he’s been held in contempt for 4 years. He hasn’t even been convicted.
Officer Dunn (00:20:13.16)
You can’t go in here and disrupt the judge.
Shay (00:20:15.04)
I’m not going to disrupt.
Officer Dunn (00:20:15.09)
He’s going to hold you in contempt, and it’s just not—
Shay (00:20:17.20)
Well, you know, if that’s what it takes. I wore socks today. I wore my socks today if that’s what it takes.
Officer Dunn (00:20:23.07)
So we’re not going to do that. That’s what we’re not going to do.
Shay (00:20:27.06)
What’s it going to take then? This man has been improperly incarcerated for 4 years.
Officer Dunn (00:20:30.19)
He knows that he’s in LMDC. They will get a transport order for him to come here. It may not be today, it may be next time.
Kendrick (00:20:39.15)
Listen Shay. Just get out of there. You’re literally talking to the Ku Klux Klan. Like, literally get out of there.
Shay (00:20:44.04)
I’m not leaving until I make sure the judge sees me.
Kendrick (00:20:47.29)
When you go in the courtroom, you don’t need the sheriff’s permission. It’s a public courtroom. Just go in there and sit down. Don’t be in contempt over when he’s done with the judge, when he, when he breaks in between cases, you stand up and say, Judge, may I speak to you? May I give you 10 seconds worth of information? And you give it to them.
Shay (00:21:05.03)
Are you here for this? Give it to them.
Officer Cothern (00:21:07.10)
I have no idea who you are.
Shay (00:21:09.21)
Uh, Jay Cothurn, uh, badge number 603. 603 is witnessing.
Kendrick (00:21:15.01)
Hey, Chris. 603, what’s that last name?
Shay (00:21:17.21)
Cothern. C-O-T-H-E-R-N. Sorry, did I butcher that? Cothern.
Kendrick (00:21:21.19)
C-O-T-H-E-R-N.
Shay (00:21:26.08)
H-E-R-N, and he’s wearing blue. What’s your badge number, Mr. Snow?
Officer Snow (00:21:33.01)
1350.
Shay (00:21:34.11)
Thank you. They’re not gonna let me go in right now, but I’m gonna put my phone away and I’m gonna be respectful. I’m not planning to disrupt. I have a right to be in here.
Kendrick (00:21:43.17)
So is he an officer or are these sheriffs? Is that the last one you got, officer or sheriff?
Shay (00:21:48.11)
Uh, the last one is in brown. I’m sorry, I don’t know everybody’s uniforms.
Kendrick (00:21:53.20)
No, I got that color. 603?
Shay (00:21:55.08)
Yeah, he’s blue.
Kendrick (00:21:57.11)
So he’s an officer?
Officer Cothern (00:21:59.17)
Yes, I work for the Lebanon Junction Police Department.
Kendrick (00:22:03.08)
Oh yes.
Officer Cothern (00:22:03.24)
And I’m here on something completely unrelated.
Kendrick (00:22:06.02)
Get out of there. Look, you literally are surrounded by Klan members. Get the hell out of there, all right?
Shay (00:22:15.19)
I, I have to, I have to hold my people accountable, Kendrick. So I’m good.
Kendrick (00:22:21.04)
I know, I got it. All right, I’ll talk to you soon.
Officer Dunn (00:24:23.03)
He’s going to give you a contempt charge if you interrupt him.
Shay (00:24:26.05)
Okay.
