Public Defender
Duncan is one of two public defenders assigned to Kendrick’s cases. Unfortunately, there has been some bad blood between the two of them, to the extent they can no longer work together. On numerous occasions, Kendrick has stated on the record that Duncan has “death threated” him and that he wants him removed from his case. I believe their relationship even came to blows at some point. Duncan has tried to explain it away, but the fact remains that he has also not represented Kendrick in the manner he wishes to be represented.
For example, following the October 2025 hearing, a recording captures Duncan speaking with Kendrick’s sister. At one point in the conversation, he tells her that Kendrick is “delusional” and that he is “making it all up.” If your own lawyer doesn’t believe you, how can they truly and fairly represent you to the court? Not to mention, there are enough reasons to believe that Kendrick is NOT making ANY of the things he is telling us up. After all, he wants the courtroom DVDs that show what Kendrick says really happened to be released, but Bullitt County clerks refuse to do so. They are going off of an order from the judge from last year. However, when we ask for the recordings on record, the judge says we can just get them from the clerk. The cracks these DVDs and court documents continue to fall through, and Kendrick’s own history of inability to receive discovery, have become so large, that there really is no other way to interpret these ongoing failings as willful and egregious.
During the March competency hearing, Duncan again argues that Kendrick is unfit to represent himself. The prosecuting attorney, Kyle Williamson, ends up doing a better job arguing on Kendrick’s behalf than his own attorney.
Duncan’s only redeeming quality is that he slightly resembles Robert DeNiro. Maybe we could get Robert to play Duncan in the Netflix documentary series, because this definitely needs to be made into one.
The other attorney who Kendrick has asked to have present is Mr. Tracy. He was unable to attend the last hearing due to a murder trial he is also working on. This misunderstanding, for lack of a better term, is what led to Kendrick’s most recent contempt of court charges, landing him back in jail for another 90 days.
