Shay (06:57)
Okay, I’ve got— well, there’s Cohron, there’s a couple different ones that have been involved in this It was originally Burress. Okay, so is this taking Burress’s place, or—

Officer Dunn (07:06)
Yeah, um, what’s the last name?

Shay (07:08)
Wilson. Kendrick Wilson.

Officer Dunn (07:09)
Yeah, this is the right one.

Shay (07:10)
Okay, thank you.

People at Front of Room (07:11)

Shay (10:47)
They keep pinning him with these failures and he can’t get here because he’s in jail.

Thank you.

Automated Jail Attendant (19:43)
[CALL COMES IN FROM KENDRICK – SHAY STEPS OUTSIDE COURTROOM]

Shay (20:32)
I’m receiving a call from the prisoner that they tried to call earlier.

Officer Mattingly (20:37)
I’m sorry?

Shay (20:38)
I’m receiving a call from the prisoner, Kendrick Wilson, right now.

Shay (20:42)
[PUTS PHONE ON SPEAKER]

Automated Jail Attendant (20:43)
Dial 1 now. To reject this call dial 2 now. For help from an operator

Shay (20:49)
They said he wasn’t present, because he’s in custody. He’s calling me from the jail, so I’m

Automated Jail Attendant (20:49)
regarding calls from this number dial 7 now. Your call has been accepted.

Kendrick (20:56)
Hello?

Shay (20:57)
Hello?

Kendrick (20:59)
Hey, uh, I’m supposed to have court or whatever today, and now Bullitt County is trying to lie and say, uh, they didn’t know I was in jail.

Shay (21:08)
Well, they called your name, and I said something to one of the officers. I said he’s in custody because they were about to give you another failure to appear, and I said that’s why he has failures to appear. And so somebody said they were going to go tell the judge, so that’s—

People at Front of Room (21:20)
no, they’re not going to go tell him. You got to go tell the judge yourself.

Shay (21:23)
How do I do that?

Kendrick (21:23)
They’re not going to go. Just go to the courtroom and tell the judge.

Shay (21:26)
They’re in court already. They’re in session. Can I interrupt it?

Kendrick (21:30)
Yes, you can go to court. You can go to court. You can stand up and the judge is going to ask, and then you speak. You say, uh, Kendrick Wilson is in custody and this county is purposely failing to, uh, to, to report it and stuff so they can pile up failure to appears and he’s been calling. As simple as that.

Shay (21:50)
All right.

Kendrick (21:50)
You gotta tell the judge yourself because the clerk’s office and everything, they’re all in on it. We’ve been calling all morning and they trying to say, “oh, we didn’t know he was in custody, blah blah.” Then we called Bullitt County, uh, uh, DPA’s office and they just lie. Everything is a lie. But you gotta let Judge Kelly know.

Shay (22:07)
Did you let Judge Kelly know?

Officer Dunn (22:09)
Yeah, I let, uh,

Shay (22:10)
all right, I’m talking with Officer Dunn right now and he let He said he let the judge know.

Judge (22:16)
So I’ll get his badge number.

People at Front of Room (22:18)
Is he a sheriff or officer? Get his badge number.

Shay (22:21)
703. Are you a sheriff or a—

Officer Dunn (22:24)
Yeah, uh, court security.

Shay (22:25)
Court security. 703, Dunn. And then there’s also Mattingly that I told. He’s sitting outside, so he’s— they’re not letting him report. They’re not letting him come to court.

Kendrick (22:37)
Get Mattingly badge number too.

Shay (22:39)
Okay.

Officer Dunn (22:39)
Yeah, they’ll be able to look on the computer and see.

Shay (22:44)
Well, he’s fighting these bogus charges.

Kendrick (22:45)
Are they gonna— are they gonna send somebody to come get me or what?

Shay (22:48)
Are they coming to get him? Do you know?

Officer Dunn (22:51)
Not that I’m aware of.

Shay (22:53)
Who can we press this with? Because this isn’t fair that he can’t get representation.

Kendrick (23:01)
Go to the courtroom. Uh, go to the judge. Say you want to go to the courtroom and speak to the judge about it.

Shay (23:05)
Can I speak to the judge? Will you arrest me? I mean, I got a few minutes, Kendrick, so, um, after we hang up, I’ll make— I’ll stick around until I get a chance to talk to the judge.

Kendrick (23:19)
Listen, you don’t have … permission. Listen, you don’t have to ask permission to go to the judge. You just go to the courtroom, right? Yeah, sit in there. Once he takes a break, uh, in between cases, you stand up. You stand up and say, judge, I just want to give you, uh, 10 seconds worth of information. You give it to him.

Shay (23:35)
Okay.

Kendrick (23:35)
And then, and then it’s on the record. That’s it. You just let him know that I’m arrested and, uh, these, these clerks have purposely withheld the information from, from the courts.

Shay (23:48)
All right, Mr. Dunn is sitting here, uh, listening. Did you hear that? You heard all that? He’s talking on his radio.

Shay (23:56)
Am I in your way?

People at Front of Room (23:57)
Yes.

Shay (23:58)
Sorry.

People at Front of Room (23:58)
Thank you.

Kendrick (23:59)
Did you get, uh, Mattingly’s, uh, the Sheriff Mattingly’s, uh,

Shay (24:04)
I will before I leave.

Shay (24:05)
I will before I leave for sure. Do you know Mattingly’s badge number? Okay.

Kendrick (24:11)
Because I’m, I’m gonna subpoena, um, these officers as far as, you know, they said that they told the judge. You said he said he told the judge, correct?

Shay (24:25)
Yes.

Officer Dunn (24:25)
Yeah, I’m not sure about why they didn’t transport this

Shay (24:29)
This is like his 7th time they’ve done this to him. That’s why I’ve been showing up.

Officer Dunn (24:35)
She’s got Kendrick Wilson on the phone. I don’t know.

Officer Cothern (24:37)
I don’t have any idea. We didn’t get an order to transport.

Shay (24:40)
Can you go get him before the judge leaves? Kendrick, he’s in LMDC right now.

Officer Cothern (24:43)
We’re not going to get him now. We’d have to have an order to get him out of there.

Shay (24:46)
This is the 7th time they’ve done this to him. He keeps missing … the judge will.

Kendrick (24:49)
The judge will give an order. That’s the whole point. If you give the judge the correct information, he will put an order in for me to go be picked up and then brought back to court now. On the second part of court, which would be after 12 o’clock.

Officer Cothern (25:00)
He gives us orders to transport people when he wants them.

Shay (25:03)
Well, he may not be—he may not have the full story. They’re not telling him the truth.

Kendrick (25:07)
They have a trial scheduled for today. So if a trial— it says trial court— if it’s scheduled for today and they didn’t come get me at 9, then they can shift it back to 12 o’clock. And so he would put the order in. I’m only 20 minutes away to come get me. That’s how I know they’re not properly communicating this information to the judge, because he would say, “go get him.” They’re wasting taxpayer dollars. This is, this is what they’ve been doing out there the whole time.

Shay (25:33)
He’s been in contempt for 4 years.

Officer Cothern (25:35)
Talk to your lawyer. Talk to your lawyer.

Shay (25:37)
That’s a long story right there. Um, he’s been held in contempt for 4 years. He hasn’t even been convicted.

Officer Dunn (25:43)
We can’t go in here and disrupt the judge.

Shay (25:45)
I’m not going to disrupt.

Officer Dunn (25:46)
He’s gonna hold you in contempt, and it’s just not—

Shay (25:47)
Well, you know, if that’s what it takes. I wore socks today. I wore my socks today if that’s what it takes.

Officer Dunn (25:53)
We’re not going to do that. That’s what we’re not going to do.

Shay (25:57)
What’s it going to take then? This man has been improperly incarcerated for 4 years.

Officer Dunn (26:01)
He knows that he’s in LMDC. They will get a transport order for him to come here. It may not be today. It may be—

Kendrick (26:08)
Listen, Shay, just get out of there. You’re literally talking to the Ku Klux Klan. Like, literally get out of there.

Shay (26:14)
I’m not leaving until I make sure the judge sees me.

Kendrick (26:18)
Well, you can go in the courtroom. You don’t need the sheriff’s permission. It’s a public courtroom. Just go in there and sit down. Don’t get in contempt though, So when he’s done, when the judge, when he, when he breaks in between cases, you stand up and say, judge, may I speak to you? May I give you 10 seconds worth of information? And you give it to him.

Shay (26:35)
Are you here for this?

Kendrick (26:35)
You give it to him.

Shay (26:36)
Are you here because of me?

Officer Cothern (26:37)
I have no idea who you are ma’am.

Shay (26:38)
Uh, Jay Cothurn, uh, badge number?

Officer Cothern (26:42)
603.

Shay (26:43)
603 is witnessing.

Kendrick (26:46)
603. What’s his last name?

Shay (26:47)
Cothurn. C-O-T-H-E-R-N. Sorry, did I butcher that?

Officer Cothern (26:52)
Cothern.

Shay (26:53)
C-O-T-H-E-R-N. And he’s wearing blue.

Shay (27:00)
What’s your badge number, Mr. Snow?

Offier Snow (27:03)
1350.

Shay (27:04)
Thank you. They’re not gonna let me go in right now, but I’m gonna put my phone away and I’m gonna be respectful. I’m not planning to disrupt. I have a right to be in there—

Kendrick (27:12)
Did you say he was in blue? So is he an officer or are these sheriffs? Is that the last one you gave? Officer or sheriff?

Shay (27:18)
Uh, the last one is in brown. I’m sorry, I don’t know everybody’s uniform.

People at Front of Room (27:22)
No, I’m talking about that coat, the one, the 603.

Shay (27:25)
He’s blue.

Kendrick (27:26)
The second. So he’s an officer?

Officer Cothern (27:29)
Yes, I work for the Lebanon Junction Police Department.

Shay (27:33)
Okay.

Kendrick (27:34)
Oh yeah, you listen, when you get a chance, Shay, get out of there. You literally are surrounded by Klan members. Get the hell out of there, all right?

Shay (27:43)
You know, um, I, I have to, I have to hold my people accountable, Kendrick. So. I’m good.

Kendrick (27:49)
I know, I know you do, but at the end of the day, don’t, don’t do too much. Just get out there and make sure you get Mattingly’s number. Uh, get Mattingly’s badge number before you leave and tell him Kendrick Wilson …

Shay (27:59)
you’re laughing.

Offier Snow (28:00)
I’m laughing because he’s calling me a Klan member. He doesn’t even know me.

Shay (28:04)
Well…

Kendrick (28:04)
It don’t matter. I can— I don’t have to know them. I can call them what I want.

Shay (28:04)
Sit down with him.

Offier Snow (28:07)
I’m not sitting down with him. Why would I sit down with him when he just called me a Klan member?

Shay (28:11)
If you get your feelings hurt over somebody else’s freedom, let’s, let’s have some perspective here.

Offier Snow (28:16)
My feelings don’t have anything to do with it.

Kendrick (28:16)
Listen, don’t even get—

Shay (28:19)
I hear that all the time. I’ve been called that. It doesn’t hurt my feelings.

Kendrick (28:19)
Don’t even engage in arguing with those people. Don’t even talk. Don’t even talk to those people.

Shay (28:24)
I do better is what I do.

Kendrick (28:24)
All they trying to— all they trying to do is get you to a point to where they can arrest you. That’s it. Just get out of there. Don’t even talk to those people. I’m entitled to my opinion. They are Klan members, every last one of them.

Shay (28:35)
Judging by their behaviors, I would say the defensive posture confirms it.

Kendrick (28:40)
They know it’s true. They know it’s true. I’m not worried about that. And they mad that I’m not scared of them. They know I know the truth about them. They are Klan members, every last one of them. But at the end of the day, get out of there. Just communicate what you got to communicate to the judge and be respectful when you talk to the judge.

Shay (28:54)
I will.

Kendrick (28:54)
That’s it.

Shay (28:54)
I got it.

Kendrick (28:56)
All right.

Shay (28:57)
I’ll talk to you soon.

Kendrick (28:58)
All right.
